LOL! I can't believe I didn't see the connection between Jean Grey and this picture before you said that. Now that I look at it, the connections are really pretty clear -- which makes sense as I'm a huge fan of Jean (and also Storm and Kitty). I think the hair came out pretty well! I'm also finally finished painting this one now. I think I like the clouds over the world below her best, myself! XD I hope the weather in Europe is treating you well!
Unconscious painting maybe ? I don't really know Xmen that well, but that's the first thought I had You're right, the clouds are great too, I like how you can really see the sky "curving". And how you can see them through her dress (I almost called it wings, it's like butterfly wings... there's so many things to see in your drawing, I love this !)
I actually posted the stages before the 'cloud-dress' part, and there was a lot of colour. I had to make the dress translucent by airbrushing the clouds through. I don't know why such essentially brainless things make me zone out. They do make me happy while painting though. I do know the X-Men pretty well, so the comparison to Jean made me laugh -- I can't believe I didn't see that. You're right, I was trying to paint it so that you could see the curve of the earth. She's up pretty high. (Thanks for the cool comment about my painting, Pikku-Piru!)
It's the same for me, painting has that soothing effect that kind of stops you from thinking, which is really nice. I wish I'd find the time and motivation to just sit and paint ! I have lots of things to finish but can't bring myself to do them I used to know the old X-Men, while reading my grandfather's comics, but I got lost when I saw the movies, too many new characters ! I'd love to read more about Storm, though, I find her very cool - and I love her punk outfit and you're welcome, I really like that aspect of your paintings, that you can look at them many times and see new things I love details ^^
Oh, thanks, DahliaX. My sister wanted her hair to have 'sunrise' colours so that's how that came about. It's all airbrushing in PS 6 this time. I used to not get how to work in PS, but it's like working in Corel Painter, but with fewer brush options, and -- somehow -- everything is pearly. XD Pearly sort of suits this picture though. I had the most fun, easily, with the world below her -- all the clouds. This picture probably needs some touch-ups, even now, but it sure is fun to paint!
I think it's finally done, in fact. Many changes, and lots of smoothing out, but... I think I'm happy with it now. I like the clouds. Painting things like that lets me just zone out entirely. That's why it's fun. It's peaceful. I'm glad someone likes it!
